The Boeing Company is recruiting for a Entry Level Manufacturing Engineer, Weld Engineering to develop and implement production and tooling methodologies for our Space Launch Systems located in New Orleans, LA 

The candidate should have knowledge in Friction Stir Weld  (FSW) applications and associated equipment/tooling along with some practical experience/knowledge of working with friction stir weld and stir weld systems. Candidate will work on the factory floor throughout all stages of production to ensure successful build of the core stage assemblies. Candidate will be paired with experienced weld engineers to learn firsthand FSW applications and weld systems

Position Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and implementation of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) and it's methodologies

  • Participates as a member of an Weld Engineering team to supports welding of components for the Space Launch Systems

  • Helps integration of (FSW) technical solutions across multiple disciplines

  • Supports the development, identification and implementation of FSW and maintenance of the program architecture for build

  • Participates in the implementation of manufacturing plans

  • Investigates technical problems

  • Participates in the implementation of Lean principles and technologies

  • Interfaces with IPTs and internal customers to develop products, skills, knowledge and experience

  • Participates on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines

  • Implements Weld process Specifications for welding of core stage components

  • Implements weld manufacturing plans

  • Conducts producibility and variation analyses to ensure that weld process capability matches requirements

  • Assists in providing producibility information for inclusion in project plans and helps document producibility best practices

  • Assists in analyzing design/build concepts to evaluate producible design/build definitions as it relates to weld applications

  • Resolves technical problems of significant impact to performance, cost or schedule

  • Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts

  • Validates and ensures production readiness of solutions to complex problems. Implements lean principles and technologies

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to NASA (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing. 

This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Must have a Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience/knowledge with friction stir weld equipment

  • Experience in developing solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation

  • Experience using lean principles

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
