The Boeing Company is hiring an Entry Level Test and Evaluation Engineer (Level 1) to join the Propulsion Lab team at the company’s Seattle, WA location. In the Propulsion Lab, you will support development and certification testing of aircraft propulsion systems. The Propulsion lab is responsible for laboratory and aircraft ground testing to support airplane design, development, certification, research and technology development, delivery, after sales support, and accident investigations for all BCA products and many BDS products. Testing activities include nacelle and low speed aerodynamic models, fuel systems, fire extinguishing, flammability of materials and some other hazardous testing.

We are hiring an early-career engineer to help with multiple types of testing that we perform on-site and sometimes at off-site locations. Leading candidates will have an interest and history of hands-on mechanical-type projects and understand the purpose behind testing. Candidates will need to operate in a dynamic and sometimes emergent environment. You should have some project management skills, good organizational skills and ability to coordinate with a diverse team along with a commitment to safety and first-time quality.

Laboratory and test capabilities that you may be asked to support:

  • 9X9 Low Speed Wind Tunnel (BPWT) - Testing on inlet models and low speed aerodynamic models

  • Nozzle Test Facility (NTF) - Testing on engine exhaust and other nozzle models

  • Fuel Test Facility - Supports local and remote testing on airplane fuel systems

  • Fuel Properties - Onsite facility to measure fuel properties

  • Fuel Flowmeter Calibration Facility - Responsible for calibrating flow meters used in fluid systems

  • Hazardous Test Facility - Responsible for fire testing, flammability testing, battery testing and other testing that produces hazardous emissions or high levels of energy

  • Fire Extinguisher testing - Remote and local testing on engine, APU, and cargo bay fire extinguishing systems, may be asked to support flight testing

  • Full scale engine testing - Supports remote and local testing on engines including certification testing, air leakage, and performance characteristics

Position Responsibilities:

  • Participates in gathering and analyzing requirements for test measurement systems

  • Assists in the development of test procedures, and instrumentation and configuration definition to perform the test within the constraints of the test plan

  • Develops solutions to calibration systems problems

  • Performs data analysis, develops and utilizes data processing tools

  • Designs simple component level hardware or software

  • Uses analytical tools to verify the design

  • Verifies collection of complete data set

  • Maintains test logs, prepares simple test reports and archives data

  • Works under direct supervision

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an ABET accredited course of study in engineering and ABET accredited college / university

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Experience in systems engineering and test and evaluation engineering

  • Experience as a Design Engineer

  • Experience working in Fuel Systems or Propulsion Systems

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
