Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Layout Specialist to join our team in Auburn, WA!

In this position machinists perform layout or provide the paths for probing of aircraft parts/tools (e.g., castings, forgings) and establish procedures/evaluations for machining for best fit, analyzing and making recommendations to processes in manufacturing. Employment in this position also requires finger manipulation, lifting less than 10 pounds, sitting, standing, walking, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, ears and feet. Obtain work, evaluating jobs by size and complexity or written/verbal tie-ins to establish job priority.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Obtain appropriate drawings, Boeing (BAC) specification, documents and/or sketches, using computing systems (e.g., Bold/Web, CATIA), as required.

  • Determine media to be used (e.g., coordinate measuring machine (CMM), conventional numerically controlled (CNC) catia, digital data) in layout process.

  • Perform layout of part or check work using precision measuring tools (e.g., height gauge, sine bars, and micrometer) on surface tables to ensure accuracy.

  • Design catia information (e.g., digital data, plots, coordinates, overlays) to facilitate customer (e.g., Quality assurance, engineering, machine shop, production, and tooling) as required.

  •  Provide information to verify per drawing standards (e.g., radi, tangent points, hole points) thru digitization of photo contact master (PCM) to numerically controlled (NC) or (CNC) conventional numerically controlled machines.

  • Troubleshoot and edit media Tryout (MTO), as required.

  • Set up and design shop aids for difficult machine operations.

  • Work and develop experimental processes (e.g., shot peen, heat treat, plating) to obtain dimensionally correct parts.

  • Operate and run overhead crane to position parts/tools into position.

  •  Layout, plan and sequence work, use shop math, geometry, and/or trigonometry to calculate dimensions, as required.

  • Investigate and resolve shop/engineering, rejections by recommending methods, ways, processes, and sequences of operations, which can be used in machining to solve problems.

  • Problem solving getting concurrence/verification for best fit of material through geometric dimensioning and tolerance interpretation.

  • Operate and run CMM machine to check discrepancies (e.g., flatness, straightness, lack of material, hole location) to verify discrepancies.

  • CMM Consult with management and/or others (e.g., production, engineering, planning), on process or job related issues as required.

  •  Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner as required.


 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience using a computer such as internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office and/or other specialized computer applications.

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.
