Boeing’s Safety Management System (SMS) team is seeking Senior Safety Management System Engineers/Integrators (Level 4) to join our team to support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System with these positions being focused on the BCA Business Unit!

In this capacity, the selected candidate will work with BCA Functions (Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer Support) and Airplane Programs (737, 747/767/ 777/777X, and 787) and Product Development to implement and improve the Safety Management System.

The Senior SMS positions require previous experience with Safety Management Systems and a deep understanding of FAA Part 5 regulations relating to SMS (and or the equivalent global ICAO standards).

This position is a Hybrid work assignment. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options 1-2 days per week and/or co-located on an as-needed basis with the BCA teams with which they are collaborating for short periods.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead BCA Teams in their effort to Operationalize Enterprise SMS policy and governance standards.

  • Integrate lessons learned with other Business Unit SMS Teams to ensure the proliferation of best practices.

  • Engage and communicate across the employee spectrum from Executive/Senior leadership to working level teams to promote and operationalize the SMS.

  • Coach and facilitate BCA teams with the Enterprise Safety Risk Management (SRM) approach that supports reporting, investigation, hazard identification, safety risk assessment, and risk control across the business unit.

  • Support Safety Assurance implementation and continuous improvement as the business unit advances its use of monitoring and analysis of metrics/data to assure achievement of the SMS objectives.

  • Collaborate and engage with external entities regarding SMS which may include Airline Customers, Regulators, Suppliers, and other entities.

Work Authorization:
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience):

  • Previous experience with Safety Management Systems and a deep understanding of FAA Part 5 regulations relating to SMS (or the equivalent global ICAO standards).

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

  • Experience working with Boeing Commercial Airplanes

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position does offer relocation based on candidate eligibility.
