Boeing Defense Space & Security has an exciting opportunity for a Lead/Senior Phantom Works Radio Frequency (RF) Engineer to join us as part of our Phantom Works team located in El Segundo, CA.

We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

This engineer will participate in all phases of the system development life cycle, including payload development, requirements definition, analysis and decomposition, software and hardware system design, algorithm design, risk management, integration, test, and operations. The successful candidate will be helping lead system level requirements, design, and development, verification, and operations activities with an emphasis in RF design and integration.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead circuit design, simulation, development, analysis, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Lead the analysis, modeling, and design of components, slices and unit level next-Gen communications electronics hardware for space.

  • Ability and interest working in a fast paced environment developing communication electronics payload technology for prototype demonstrations in space.

  • Lead the creation of unit, slice and component level test and qualification plans for rapid development space electronics hardware.

  • Own the design and verification procedures necessary for hardware sell off.

  • Lead interactions with customers in determining the test parameters and test methodology for hardware sell off.

  • Lead the verification and analysis of test results and the creation of test data reports.

  • Support all design reviews and provide content as requested (PDR, CDR, unit sell-off).

  • Ability to work across IPT’s and with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Conduct risk mitigation activities and issue resolution.

  • Ability to provide guidance to junior engineers.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or Internationally depending on business needs

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • An active US Top Secret Clearance
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience designing RF electronics products (mixers, LNA’s, demodulators, routers, downconverters, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Experience in design of RF electronics, photonics, and/or optical communications payload hardware.
  • Experience with mixers, Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA) or LNA’s, demodulators, downconverters, etc.
  • Experience navigating major program design reviews including SRR, PDR and CDR
  • Prior experience working Phantom Works or in other R&D programs

Typical Education/Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
