The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior UX Software Engineer to join the Digital Acceleration Products and Capabilities team located in Tukwila, WA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The Products and Capabilities organization is a BDS business unit software factory that is all about rapidly innovating and deploying new solutions to the dynamic defense industry. We have a number of existing and growing software product families.  Our teams embrace an Agile mindset allowing them to adjust and adapt to changing customer demands.  We leverage the complex interconnection of digital threads between BDS's modeling and simulation environment and the platforms currently in service today, as well as future products. In addition, our DevSecOps initiative lays the foundation to create a secure Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI\CD) pipeline to ensure safety, quality, and security, which are key tenants for our defense customers. These elements fully support the Products and Capabilities organization's mission and vision to "Rapidly innovate, develop, and deploy mission systems designs and software capabilities ensuring warfighter superiority".

Partnering with both internal and external organizations, the UX team develops the underlying framework that will be used across Boeing to build displays with a common look and feel.  The team also works closely with various programs to develop the displays that will be deployed on their platforms.  Current deployment environments span from LAD’s (Large Area Displays), to helmets, to desktop applications.  We also work hand in hand with the Human Engineering group to ensure design decisions are made with the end users best interest in mind.  The selected team member enjoys working collaboratively with others, has a commitment to customer satisfaction and process improvement.  They should be adaptable to new development environments and eager to work with and learn new technologies.

This is a union represented position.

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Provide technical leadership to develop, document, and maintain software systems

  • Engage with programs across BDS to understand customer requirements

  • Designs and develops display software services

  • Participates in use case development for software requirements

  • Lead junior engineers on software development best practices

  • Develops and conducts unit and integration tests

  • Participates in peer reviews and provide guidance on software engineering best practices

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate may be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. A final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required. 

Required Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Ability to obtain U.S. Secret Security Clearance (Post-Start)

  • Possess a Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other technical degree 

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience

  • 5+ years C++ programming experience

  • 5+ years of User Interface development experience

  • Experience with continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines

  • Experience with agile development practices

  • Experience with embedded software systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • An active U.S. Security Clearance

  • Experience developing displays for embedded systems

  • Familiarity with DO-178B/C Certification

  • Mentoring and/or Leadership experience

  • Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS)

  • Experience with OpenGL, or Vulkan

Typical Education/Experience: 

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 10 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master +12 years' related work experience) 

  • In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required 

Travel:

Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.  Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.
