The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization, Space and Launch Division is seeking Experienced Science and Analysis Systems Engineer (Level 3) to join our team in Kihei, HI to support the configuration management of electro-optical systems for the Research Advance Space Superiority Technology and Engineering (RASTER) Program. 

Position Overview:

The Science and Analysis Systems Engineer will be a part of a high-performing research and development team supporting the Air Force Maui Optical and Super-computing Site (AMOS) on the RASTER contract. This position will support research efforts in imagery, photometry, and object detection using a wide variety of telescopes and sensors to include modeling, simulation, and data analysis. This position will also support maintenance and development of post-processing software and data pipelines.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assisting in defining and gathering optical sensor requirements from the Air Force customer and refine into coherent system requirements documents. 

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary scientific and engineering teams to implement the requirements into operational systems and verify system performance against the agreed upon requirements. 

  • Support Air Force visiting experimenters as necessary to achieve mission goals.

Work Authorization:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  (An interim and/or final U.S. confidential clearance Post Start is required).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • 2 years or more of experience programming languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, and MATLAB.

  • 2 years or more of experience developing software models of physical systems and scientific phenomena.

  • Experience working with applied physics and math.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • Knowledge of signal processing with exceptional skills in applied physics and math and strong software development skills.

  • Knowledge of or experience with math based analytical tools such as MATLAB, and the ability to develop software models of physical systems and scientific phenomena using UNIX/ LINUX and Windows based computing platforms.

  • Experience or education with ground based optical telescopes, electro-optical systems, sensors, lasers, and supercomputing platforms.

  • Knowledge of basic astronomy, photometry, estimation theory, development of parallel code, and orbital mechanics.

  • Assist to define and gather optical sensor requirements from the Air Force customer and refine into coherent system requirements documents.

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary scientific and engineering teams to implement the requirements into operational systems and verify system performance against the agreed upon requirements.

  • Support Air Force visiting experimenters as necessary to achieve mission goals.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
