Boeing Defense, Space & Security is seeking an Associate Electrical Design Engineer to join our Space Launch System team in New Orleans, LA.

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo to/beyond our moon and into deep space. SLS launches larger payloads farther in our solar system, faster than ever before possible. It will be the most powerful rocket ever built, enabling diverse exploration, science and security missions. Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite. This position is for a design engineer to join our SLS Core Stage (CS) Team to enable NASA to send large co-manifested payloads and along with an astronaut crew back to the Lunar Surface to support the overall Artemis Program.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work within the Core Stage team in support of CS wire harness vehicle design and integration activities. 

  • CREO 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) wire harness routing and design integration efforts.

  • Wire harness design and drawing production

  • Design ownership and vendor coordination

  • Vehicle integration at Michoud Assembly Facility

  • Vehicle checkout and acceptance/verification testing, and vehicle support to NASA during testing and post-delivery. 

  • Additional duties can range from development of layout & engineering CAD / data set production as part of vehicle development & maturation, vendor on-site support, vendor acceptance package reviews, support to manufacturing engineering, non-conformance processing, and tracking design and production completeness.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience) 

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience)

  • Experience with 3D computer aided design (CAD) on aerospace programs

  • 1 year of experience with electrical wire design

  • Experience with 3D computer aided design (CAD) on aerospace programs

  • 1 year of experience with electrical wire design

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree preferred

  • Experience in understanding requirements and how to apply them to vehicle design and ability to problem solve design issues

  • Experience with space flight hardware & 3D CREO CAD modeling and drawing generation

Typical Education / Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer
science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or
more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical
education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the
preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.  Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
