The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch Systems is seeking a Senior Fault & Autonomy Engineer – Level 5 that will lead the development and management of Autonomous systems for programs in Washington State. This role will provide leadership for autonomous product requirements definition and decomposition, systems design and analysis, systems integration, test, and verification. Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads and develops optimal subsystem designs, performs requirements definition and flowdown
  • Creates operational concepts and products, develops interface requirements, and performs verification and validation
  • Performs analyses to evaluate and optimize total system performance to meet customer autonomous operation requirements
  • Resolves technical issues and ensures the spacecraft and system are flight worthy prior to delivery
  • Creates tools and techniques to optimize, analyze, and validate performance
  • Develops solutions with cross-functional teams to assure mission success and presenting those findings to customer, chief engineer, and senior management
  • Performs trade studies to meet program requirements
  • Develops requirement management processes and tools.
  • Investigates actions necessary for requirements definition and flow-down improvement.
  • Performs and documents design of Guidance, Navigation, and Control systems models and tools and guides less experienced engineers in performance of the designs. Develops certification criteria and methods with regulatory agencies.
  • Leads, organizes and resolves cross-divisional problems to provide technical assistance to internal/external customers.
  • Assures cost, time effective, creative solutions and disposition of issues to assure customer satisfaction. Performs a wide variety of complex trades studies to meet program requirements.
  • Works under consultative direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Work Authorization:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 5+ year of experience working in aerospace, defense, or similar high-tech industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with FDIR (fault detection, interpretation, and response) development
  • Leadership experience in Aerospace Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience developing solutions to complex technical problems
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal)
  • Experience working with C/C++
  • Experience working with MATLAB and VBA tool development

Typical Education & Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's with 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
