BR&T is looking for an Associate Materials, Process and Physics - Machine Characterization Engineer (level 2) based out of Auburn, Washington to support Machine/Equipment Characterization for Research and Development (R&D) and various production programs within the Boeing Enterprise (to include Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) and Boeing Global Services (BGS) for Additive Manufacturing technologies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist in characterizing machines/equipment to develop, optimize, calibrate and control manufacturing and production processes
  • Assist in developing standard tools/methods to evaluate existing/new equipment to meet requirements
  • Assist in developing and executing design of experiments to validate machine stability and capabilities
  • Assist in machine qualification for production environment
  • Utilize test data for analysis and resolution; determine root cause, recommend and implement appropriate course of action, as needed
  • Drafts engineering specifications and other documents to manage the equipment
  • Conducts routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures
  • Develops computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 1+ years of experience working with designing production machinery
  • 1+ years of experience with machine qualification
  • 1+ years of experience with failure analysis (performing or review)
  • 1+ years of experience with technical writing

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Aerospace engineering, Materials and Science engineering - Metallurgy
  • Experience working with operations/manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with suppliers
  • Experience developing solutions to problems in the design, production, and sustainment phases of a program-Hands-on experience with operating/troubleshooting 3D printers
  • Experience with Data analysis using Matlab, Python, and/or R-Experience with laser systems
  • Experience with optical systems
  • Experience with gas flow instrumentation and analysis

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
