Boeing Defense, Space & Security is seeking a Experienced Electrical Wire Design Engineer to join our Space Launch System team in New Orleans, LA.

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo to/beyond our moon and into deep space. SLS launches larger payloads farther in our solar system, faster than ever before possible. It will be the most powerful rocket ever built, enabling diverse exploration, science and security missions. Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite. This position is for a wire harness design engineer to join our SLS Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) Team to enable NASA to send large co-manifested payloads and along with an astronaut crew back to the Lunar Surface to support the overall Artemis Program.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains cable/wire harness detail and assembly designs.
  • Analyzes results and performs design reviews.
  • CREO 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) wire harness routing and design integration efforts.
  • Develops and maintains electrical product detail, assembly and installation designs (e.g., equipment racks, power panels, cable routing and geometry, antennas).
  • Provides engineering design disposition on discrepancies (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests, shop revision requests).
  • Documents processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities.
  • Develops basic statements of work.
  • Vehicle integration at Michoud Assembly Facility.
  • Vehicle checkout and acceptance/verification testing, and vehicle support to NASA during testing and post-delivery. 
  • Participates in technical review of supplier capabilities to facilitate source selection.
  • Analyzes functional and physical input to assure development of complete integrated design. Works under general direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience)

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience with electrical wire design
  • 1+ years of experience within aerospace industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree preferred
  • Experience with space flight structural hardware & 3D CREO CAD modeling and drawing generation
  • Experience in understanding requirements and how to apply them to vehicle design and ability to problem solve design issues
  • Experience with 3D computer aided design (CAD) on aerospace development programs
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision

Typical Education / Experience

Education / experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.  Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
