Boeing's Space & Launch Engineering team is seeking Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Huntsville, AL  

The selected candidate will join the Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) diverse and multidisciplinary team and work with customers to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements for the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS).

NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo to/beyond our moon and into deep space. SLS launches larger payloads farther in our solar system, faster than ever before possible. It will be the most powerful rocket ever built, enabling diverse exploration, science and security missions. Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite. This position is a Ground Systems and Integration position on our Space Launch Exploration Upper Stage team, enabling NASA to send large co-manifested payloads and along with an astronaut crew back to the Lunar Surface to support the overall Artemis Program.

Position Overview:

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements. Analyze and translate requirements into system, hardware and software designs and interface specifications. Monitor supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements. Test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. Solve problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle.


Posit?ion Responsibilities:

  • The successful applicants will work within the Ground Systems and Integration Team (GS&) in support of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) for the Space Launch System (SLS)
  • Coordinates with multiple technical disciplines including Design, Analysis, component Responsible Engineers, and Systems Engineering to ensure technical parameters, interfaces and assumptions are consistent across disciplines
  • Comprehends the sub-system, Interface, and Test requirements, functionality, and interactions between components and parts in those sub-systems
  • Supports EGSE Technical Lead Engineers (TLEs) in technical execution and in special projects and assignments
  • Understands and can independently apply systems engineering and integration processes to technical products.  Helps designers and component responsible engineers with process knowledge and application.  Informs EGSE leadership and chief engineer of process health.
  • Evaluates proposed design changes for impacts to the EGSE system
  • Perform Risk, Issue, and Opportunity Management for the EGSE team
  • Collects and Analyze Technical data and uses the data to Measure and Report Project Progress and Health

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
  • 1+ years of experience with design and analysis of Electronic/Electrical Systems
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering
  • 3+ years of experience with design, integration, and test of electrical systems

Preferred Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Engineering experience involving system requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, integrated design, analysis and evaluation, verification, or operations of space/ground systems
  • Experience in ground system or space system engineering, including requirements analysis, design, test, and operation
  • Experience with design and analysis of basic Electronic/Electrical Systems
  • Experience in RF (radio frequency) engineering
  • Experience with Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
  • Experience with avionics and electrical ground support equipment

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
