The Boeing Company is looking for an Associate Propulsion Test Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA.  This role will conduct testing and reviewing the operations of the satellite, including fluid and gas pressure systems and hazardous operations.

This role typically requires approximately 25% travel, foreign and domestic.  International travel requires necessary medication and vaccination.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists in demonstrating the effectiveness of test methods

  • Develops simple test procedures, and instrumentation and configuration definition needed to perform the test and minimize risk

  • Designs component and sub-assembly level hardware or software and uses analytical tools to verify the design

  • Assists in coordinating the manufacture and assembly of test hardware

  • Identifies solutions to basic problems and supports the development of metrology processes, methods, and tools

  • Supports development of test debrief material

  • Participates in evaluation of test performance data

  • Reviews test data for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer

  • Alerts senior engineers of off-nominal data

  • Prepares test reports for review

  • Works under general supervision

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires US Citizenship.  A Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience with mechanical and electrical testing in the aerospace industry to include proof test, leak test, avionics test and/or functional test

  • Ability to pass an annual propellant and Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) physical and training for both category I and IV SCAPE operations

  • Ability to carry a 45 pound backpack breathing apparatus for at least 2 hours at a time while wearing a SCAPE suit. (Regular SCAPE operations (airline) require wearing a SCAPE suit for 4 to 6 hours)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience creating and documenting test plans/procedures, executing tests, analyzing results, and/or creating test reports

  • Experience in project management

  • Experience with fluid systems and related components (eg: pumps, flex hoses, filters, valves)

  • Experienced understanding of rocket propulsion concepts (e.g., solid, cryogenic, storable, electrical, hybrid, combined cycle) and rocket propulsion system features (e.g., feed, venting, loading, pressure and thermal control, purging, material compatibility, storage, slosh, fluid management, quantity measurement and indication)

  • Support equipment design and fabrication in the Propulsion Test Lab, in factory testing of satellite propulsion systems, and propellant loading at launch sites

  • Successfully completed a Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years

  • Strong Communication skills

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
