Boeing Global Services is currently seeking an Experienced Sub-Components Lead Elastomerics Design Engineer to become part of the Sub-Components Enterprise Vertical Engineering team in Seattle, Washington.

Sub-Components Enterprise Vertical Engineering team is a unique engineering and supply chain capability within Boeing with an enterprise mandate to bring Intellectual Property (IP) ownership back inside the company as build-to-print (BTP) designs that can be cost effectively produced and delivered to production and aftermarket customers.  This strategic investment increases Boeing proprietary content on commercial & defense platforms and generates sustaining services revenue for the company.  With high expectations for growth and long-term development commitments to BGS, BCA and BDS, Sub-Components is a dynamic growth opportunity for motivated engineers looking to contribute at scale and materially enhance design expertise.

This program is looking for proactive engineering leaders that can collaborate in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment and manage product development projects, in coordination with BCA, BDS, BGS and BR&T engineering teams as well as working cross-functionally with supplier management and manufacturing suppliers. In addition to strong design/manufacturing experience, certification knowledge, and Boeing internal process integration experience are preferred.

The selected candidate will develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design. Develops, maintains and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle. Leads performance, integration and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications. Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals. Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements. Works under minimal direction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide elastomeric design engineering leadership to design engineering team working to develop component parts for Boeing products.
  • Integrate the component development effort across the entire value stream, from initial project research and scoping through release, testing, certification, and production build.
  • Leads Design activities and is proactive in communication of project risks or opportunities up to the program level.
  • Leads technical quality review of the development and design of components including verifying and validating requirements.
  • Drive innovation to existing processes and tools with a services mindset and a focus on Design Excellence. Manages design elements of development, test and certification activities.
  • Provides technical and integration leadership for the development and execution of projects that may include internal resources and external suppliers and customers.
  • Supports new design development and leads by identifying activities, resources, events, risk mitigation, and metrics required to complete the work statement.
  • Develops statement of work (SOW) to satisfy new design requirements, identifies and manages changes, and assesses the impact of incorporating those changes into the statement of work.
  • Proactively leads, organizes, coordinates, and pursues opportunities working under minimal direction.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location. (Seattle, WA).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

  • 5+ years’ experience with elastomeric design, including seals, gaskets, and dust covers throughout the airplane.
  • 5+ years’ experience with schedule-related risk and opportunity analyses and providing potential solutions to management.
  • 5+ years’ experience product development and/or product design.
  • Knowledge of design for various elastomeric processes and material types to meet design requirements.
  • 3+ years’ experience Value stream integration and requirements management.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working with external customers and suppliers.
  • 3+ years’ experience with leading Boeing design, release, and certification procedures.
  • Experience working with and managing remote/global engineering resources.

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
