Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Laser and Electro Optic Systems (LEOS), is seeking a Mid-career Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) System Architect (Level 3) to support our team in Albuquerque New Mexico. The LEOS Team works to develop next-generation technologies and products in Laser and Electro-Optic systems. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) will be a focal for a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity, and complex state-of-the-art systems to integrate MBSE and MBE techniques into our way of doing engineering. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to participate in all phases of the system development life cycle, including concept of operations development, requirements development, analysis and decomposition, software and hardware system design, algorithm design, risk management, integration, test and documentation. This role will be a leader in the development and integration of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices across the LEOS programs.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Leverage broad, multi-segment Systems Architecture and MBSE experiences to lead the implementation of MBSE across LEOS programs.

  • Develop system-level concept of operations (ConOps), perform functional analysis and decomposition to meet end user needs using Model Based Systems Engineering tools and techniques.

  • Lead the development of formal systems requirements. Lead the development of system designs that satisfy the system requirements.

  • Conduct trade studies and lead trade study briefings to support the selection of algorithm approaches.

  • Ensure MBSE commonality across all models and programs.

  • Share MBSE best practices, lessons learned and serve as an MBSE mentor.

  • Focus the team, support and lead design review presentations.

  • Assist in the development of proposals for new business that will implement MBSE.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or similar discipline.

  • 5 years or more of experience with systems engineering involving system requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, integrated design, analysis, and verification.

  • 5 years or more of experience involving Model Based Systems Engineering approaches, methods, and techniques.

  • 3 years or more of experience leading system architecture and model development in an MBSE tool using SysML.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Systems Engineering leadership experience in development, integration, validation, and verification.

  • Experience performing system level trade studies.

  • Experience in modeling, simulation and analysis.

  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler Familiarity with SQL, Access, MATLAB, C++, C, Java.

  • Experience validating models.

  • Experience with electro-optic and laser systems.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
