The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Phantom Works team located in El Segundo, CA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The Boeing Phantom Works division is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to provide support to the Resilient Space Technologies Group. The Resilient Space Technologies Group is part of Boeing Phantom Works which creates differentiated capabilities and services by relentlessly pursuing innovation in design, thinking and execution. Boeing Phantom Works Space creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with experience in satellites to work in a rapid development environment. This engineer will need experience developing and documenting sophisticated electronic and electrical system requirements. Analyzes and translates requirements into system, hardware and software designs and interface specifications. The role will develop a statement of work and tests and validates products to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Ability to work as a part of a team in a fast-paced environment to develop next-Gen prototype payloads for space.
  • Craft and develop top level software architecture for mission data, command and telemetry for software both internal to the unit/payload and to external users. 
  • Develop, document and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and various test environments.
  • Experience with operating interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART), establishing timing process and system synchronization.
  • Executes test procedures and documents test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Excellent communication skills and supports hardware integration across IPT’s.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Conduct risk reduction activities and issue resolution.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • This position requires an active Top-Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering.
  • 3+ yrs experience with real-time embedded software such as low-level programming with real-time constraints

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working in a dynamic rapid prototyping environment with a space system software integration 
  • Experience with delivery of space products and sell-off of flight hardware
  • Experience with Altera Cyclone V, VHDL/Verilog and Quartus software

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience)
  • In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
