The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Program Chief Engineer to join the Maritime Undersea Orca team located in Huntington Beach, CA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled professional to serve as the Orca Chief Engineer. You will work collaboratively with Program Leadership and provide project and technical leadership and ensure common practices across programs and product lines for definition of Orca Extra Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV) Systems including internal and external interfaces, documentation of engineering requirements to meet program needs, verification and validation of program requirements, and analyses of program capabilities.

The Orca Chief Engineer will steer a multi-skilled, multi-disciplined team in the execution of a build and delivery of the Orca XLUUV System for the U. S. Navy in accordance with customer requirements, business objectives, and Boeing processes.

This role will lead project execution to complete the work statement and coordinate with all internal and external partners. The Orca Chief Engineer will ensure technical correctness and consistency of the maritime product; compare actual results to baseline plan to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity, and process improvements.

Position Responsibilities

  • All program engineering scope, providing technical oversight to all projects on the program and will serve as the formal technical interface to program functional peers.
  • Ensuring product and personnel safety.
  • Driving program technical excellence and comprehensive risk management to achieve sustained technical integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Meet or beat engineering cost, schedule, and technical commitments.
  • Drive program Quad to achieve factory stability
  • Develop and execute innovation strategy to meet Engineering commitments in the Long-Range Business Plan.
  • Create, develop, and maintain a program engineering talent strategy.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The Orca Program spans the Continental U.S.. Travel may be required up to 25-50% of the time; Domestically and/or Internationally depending on business needs

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is require

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 10 or more years of experience with Undersea systems integration and test experience
  • 10 or more years of experience with Maritime systems engineering and operations experience
  • 5 or more years of experience with antisubmarine (ASW), antisurface (ASUW), or maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems
  • Experience interfacing with external customers, subcontractors
  • Willing and able to travel 25% of the time both domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Ability to mentor entry level and senior level project engineers
  • Able to support make/buy decisions and proposals
  • Basic knowledge of United States ITAR and EAR requirements related to Unmanned Undersea Vehicles
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

Typical Education/Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 10 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+5 years' related work experience, Master+8 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
