The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) Vertical Lift Division seeks motivated and talented Mechanical Control Systems Design and Analysis Engineer to join the Future Vertical Lift team in Mesa, AZ.

The Propulsion IPT is responsible for the entire life cycle of the Longbow Apache and AH-6 Little Bird Propulsion systems components which includes requirements definition, design, tooling, fabrication/procurement, supplier management, test, support of production and support to the field. Propulsion subsystems in Mesa include the main engine system, engine controls, engine cooling louvers, engine anti-icing system, auxiliary power unit system, exhaust systems, fuel system, and fire extinguishing system.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, or modify mechanical component and installation designs using 3-D Computer Aided Engineering tools within the Propulsion subsystems.

  • Support supplier development, test and production activities including review of supplier planning changes, non-conformance resolution, and Notice of Escapement (NOE) mitigation/containment.

  • Develop working knowledge of Propulsion system design practices and gain familiarity with the various manufacturing methods & processes used to produce Propulsion components.

  • Become acquainted with and practice configuration management controls and how they are applied to engineering changes that affect multiple aircraft models and customers.

  • Support conducting root cause and corrective action investigations

  • Provide design support to Liaison Engineers in Flight Test, manufacturing and aircraft assembly areas.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. 


The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's or Master’s of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil or Structural Engineering

  • 2+ years of engineering experience in the technical areas of propulsion

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Experience with Mechanical Systems

  • Experience working with computer aided design such as CATIA, Solidworks, or Siemens NX

  • Experience performing mechanical designs with large complex systems

  • Experience in mechanical design experience on mechanical systems, air vehicle systems or propulsion systems

  • Experience with propulsion system design/integration

  • Experience working with propulsion system components, interfaces and their design/integration variables, within aerospace vehicles

  • Experience with turbine powered aircraft

  • Experience with or completed coursework with mechanical component parts such as fasteners, fluid fittings, or bearings

  • Experience with one or more of the following: Composites, Metallics, and/or Electrical Fabrication

Typical Education & Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
