Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Mid-level Technical Data Designer with experience in operations manuals to join our Special Projects team in Richardson TX.  This position develops multiple publication elements for a fielded equipment system. Collects, researches and analyzes source data and validates source data based on predefined and developed assumptions. Estimates the impact of the proposal or changes to the publication elements. Position Responsibilities:

  • Ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.

  • Develops or maintains technical publications elements including theory of operations, flight manuals, testing and troubleshooting procedures, illustrated parts breakdown, removal and installation procedures and schematic diagrams

  • Authors or revises documentation such as:

    • Aviation maintenance processes

    • Maintenance planning documentation

    • Logistics Support  Analysis (LSA) Documentation

    • Troubleshooting Instructions

    • Maintenance actions and Logistics Management Information (LMI)

  • Researches and evaluates technical source data and specifications.

  • Coordinates the preparation of illustrative graphics, conducts quality reviews, and supports validation of technical publications procedures

  • Provide products and services that meet the highest technical and quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies and processes and embrace first-time quality as a way of life – not accepting, creating or passing any defects and speaking up.

  • Uses a variety of media, clearly conveys information and ideas to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.

  • Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business).

  • Work under general supervision

This position allows telecommuting.  The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Clearance:

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred; or equivalent work experience

  • Current US Secret Security Clearance

  • 1 or more years’ experience utilizing USAF or USN Technical Data

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Current Top Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain

  • Experience with technical data authoring tools such as Arbortext Editor, Adobe Framemaker

  • Strong communication skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Experience with interpreting engineering documentation (including drawings and specifications)

  • Experience with operations manuals

  • Familiarity with maintenance manuals and documentation such as:

    • Aircraft Maintenance Manuals (Commercial or Military)

    • Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPB) or Parts Catalogs

    • Checklists (Pre & Post operation)

    • Training Manuals

    • System Instruction Manuals

    • NAVAIR documents

    • Technical Orders

    • Maintenance Instructions

    • Standard Operation Procedures

    • P-8 or 737 maintenance

    • Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRC)

    • Maintenance Action Forms (MAF)

  • Knowledge of Publishing and Logistics Engineering Tools

    • Publishing tools (MS Office, EAGLE, Frame Maker, Epic Editor, or Mekon Publisher)

    • Logistics Database tools (GOLD, NALCOMIS, Access, DOS based inventory management, EAGLE )

    • Logistics Standards (MIL-STD-1388.3b, S1000D or GIA)

  • Use of Standard Technical English

    • Technical vocabulary demonstrates experience with military or Boeing aircraft maintenance

    • Able to identify active/passive voice

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience, 9 years' related work experience, etc.).
