Boeing Phantom Works creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business and is currently looking for an Electro-Optical Systems Engineer (Level 3) to join our team in El Segundo, CA.  We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

We are seeking an Experienced Space Electro-Optics System Analysis Engineer with experience in satellites to work in a rapid development environment. This engineer will need experience evaluating customer electromagnetic needs to define and coordinate space system requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures.  The role will work with and lead electro-optics unit design, development and production for small spacecraft.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead electro-optical design, assembly and integration/verification processes for new prototype space payload. 

  • Understanding of electrical, mechanical, optical, software for space products.

  • Experience navigating design review processes (SDR, PDR, CDR, etc.) and generating and presenting content to customers

  • Perform analyses tasks in support .of a complex space payload development.

  • Coordination across multiple IPT’s in support of a space system.

  • Experience in design and development of technology demonstration payloads.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).  A final U.S. top secret clearance Pre Start is required. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires an active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics or Engineering is required.

  • Experience in developing a space products

  • Experience in developing payload-level requirements and verification/validation plans

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in development, build and test of electro-optical payloads for space

  • Experience with optical communications products and trades

  • Prior history working proprietary programs with a variety of Government entities in a classified environment

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
