The Ground-based Midcourse Defense Operations and Support team in Fort Greely, Alaska is searching for a System Support Engineer / Field Engineer with the desire to live in a remote Alaska wilderness!!

Position Responsibilities:

  • This position supports the Operations and Sustainment (O&S) Integrated Product Team (IPT) on the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program at Ft Greely, Alaska.
  • The GMD weapon system is operationally capable 24/7 to defend the U.S. homeland against long-range ballistic missile attacks.
  • As part of the O&S Field Engineering team, this position is central to the safe, efficient and effective real-time sustainment required to keep all assets ready to protect the country.
  • This position will perform tasks that include but are not limited to:  Research and analysis of industry standards and Boeing released engineering and defined processes and to support a depth of understanding of your assigned focus area.
  • Project engineering tasks to support process improvements, lean initiatives, cost reduction initiatives, weapon system upgrades, component retrofits, etc.
  • Oversight and leadership of hazardous tasks for which board approval is required
  • This position complements a dynamic team of technicians, engineers, schedulers, project managers and weapon system professionals in the execution of a variety of tasks that serve the needs of the warfighter with timely and efficient action.
  • Coordinate with internal teams in support of sustainment activities(Cyber Security, Safety, Quality, Scheduling, and Operations).
  • Travel may be required to Huntsville, Alabama or Vandenberg SFB, CA to support testing, training, and special projects. 10% travel is estimated.
  • After-hours and weekend support will be required to support program needs.
  • This position requires working in proximity of a weapon system for which inherent risks are present. Additionally, this position requires working outdoors at times for which exposure to arctic climates are required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim is required pre-start and an active final U.S. Secret clearance upon hire.

  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry or STEM related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working on a Military or Defense program
  • Experience or knowledge or mechanical or electrical systems used in facilities in a facilities, air craft, vehicle or manufacturing environment
  • CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Background in Linux/Unix OS (preferred experience with RHEL and/or Solaris)
  • Hardware/Software troubleshooting and resolution 
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices and experience working in secure environments
  • Knowledge of networking concepts
  • Strong technical writing ability

 

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+1 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense. A fixed amount stipend will be provided.
