The Boeing Company is seeking a Team Lead - Aircraft Troubleshooting Specialist to lead our Charlie Works team based in Seal Beach, CA.

Charlie Works is a specialized, highly experienced and qualified Systems Engineering team dedicated to supporting Boeing products and customers by developing industry leading diagnostic tools and methods to resolve challenging aircraft system faults and improve fleet quality and reliability through new proactive inspection techniques. With a unique combination of past aircraft maintenance experience and engineering level system analysis, the team is ideally positioned to provide technical assistance for resolving the most difficult intermittent faults, and then provide detailed fault analysis to drive product and manual improvements leading to increased customer satisfaction and product quality.

The core Charlie Works team is part of Boeing Field Service and is based with Boeing Customer Support in Seal Beach, CA. Charlie Works is currently expanding its reach and impact internally and externally through a growing team including a network of regional focals positioned globally. Charlie Works is seeking a dynamic technical leader to lead this growth, transformation, and further establish Charlie Works as an industry leader.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work across products, platforms and functional areas to apply systems solutions to develop and/or update Systems Engineering processes documentation to enhance systems engineering and software quality.

  • Collaborate with inter-disciplinary teams to resolve development, validation, verification and certification issues within the commercial aircraft systems.

  • Provide systems engineering support to product development and airplane programs across BCA, including supporting development of tactical development assurance deliverables and artifacts.

  • Support BCA Model Based Engineering (MBE) & Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) implementation initiatives.

  • Assess, identify and develop improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools and technology readiness assessment processes.

  • Lead Charlie Works team in all aspects, ensuring development of individual team members, effective deliverables, development and execution of strategic plan, and continued focus on high quality and technical excellence.

  • Establish and maintain relationships and interactions with company leadership at many levels and from different groups to represent Charlie Works and drive cross-functional integration.

  • Coordinates responses to Boeing and Customer requests for troubleshooting assistance, onsite tech assist and virtual.

  • Interfaces with Boeing and customer focals to define and execute on required support and schedule. Tracks progress of troubleshooting plans and maintains company and customer situational awareness.

  • Coordinates team project workload ensuring prioritization based on industry benefit, customer relationships, and team availability.

  • Leads team in developing advanced technical ideas and solutions, and guides development into final products.

  • Performs research and development actions required to create new and innovative troubleshooting methods and tooling, addressing opportunities in fleet and reliability programs.

  • Write, validate, and submit proactive AMM inspection procedures which empower Boeing customers to collect data and make preventative decisions they previously could not make.

  • Provide formal and informal training to internal and external customers on the utilization of the above-mentioned tools and procedures.

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership to establish foundational processes which facilitate team growth and future success.

  • Prepare and champion new project initiatives and fault isolation findings to internal Boeing leadership and stakeholders driving product improvement across all BCA models.

  • Travel up to 25% of the time, be available 24/7 on short notice to support emergent needs at any location around the world.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 
 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience)

  • Experience in troubleshooting electronic and aircraft systems.

  • Experience developing solutions to a wide range of complex and challenging technical problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation to identify unique solutions.

  • 5+ years of experience in aircraft maintenance or maintenance training.

  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design).

  • 5+ years of experience leading teams and/or leading initiatives

  • 3+ years of experience communicating to employees, customers, peers and multiple levels of leadership.

  • Able to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues.

  • Able to travel both domestically and internationally, up to 25% of the time.

  • Willing to be on call 24x7 as required to support emergent business and customer needs.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills / Experience):

  • Able to instruct and mentor in a constructive environment.

  • Experience developing and delivering training materials.

  • Experience troubleshooting airplanes using diagnostic equipment such as: Digital and Analog Multimeters, Ammeters, Oscilloscopes, Power Supplies, Frequency Domain Reflectometers, Thermal Imagers, Insulation Resistance Testers and Ultrasonic Diagnostic Tools.

  • Avionics workshop experience troubleshooting down to sub-component (IC, transistor, capacitor, resistor, diode) level.

  • Experience utilizing aircraft data from Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) or Airplane Health Monitoring (AHM) to inform the troubleshooting process.

  • Aircraft systems/avionics maintenance training consisting of one of the following:

    • FAA or EASA aircraft maintenance (A&P or B1) license with advanced electrical training such as

      • NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician certificate

      • FCC General Radiotelephone Operators license

      • 2-year electrical/electronics degree

      • military electrical training

      • EASA B2 license
         

    • Engineering degree with applied aircraft systems/avionics maintenance experience

      • Any of the aircraft maintenance training listed above

      • Previous role developing and/or performing troubleshooting workplans

      • Previous role developing and/or performing fleet reliability solutions

      • Previous role as an aircraft or electronics technician

Typical Education:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience, 18 years' related work experience, etc.).
