BGS Engineering Battlespace & Simulation Management (BSM) team is looking for a first level manager to be part of a dynamic and cohesive management team in a large Scaled Agile™ development environment. The BSM team develops Instructor/Operator stations (IOS), synthetic threat environments, and integrated live/virtual/constructive solutions that key subsystems to our flight/maintenance/aircrew simulators and trainers. BSM supports customers all over the world (US and foreign military, Boeing Commercial Aircraft, NASA).  This position would be focused on leading our F-15 fighter segment supporting a wide portfolio of both F-15 USAF and F-15 International products and customers.  Managers are expected to support the team by promoting functional excellence, ensuring that necessary resources are available, and helping to apply lessons learned. The BSM team has internal Boeing partners and external customers, and it is essential that the management team work closely with both sides to coordinate the team’s activities.

The BSM team is a large development team, comprised mainly of software engineers, which is supported by multiple managers. The successful candidate will need to work as part of this cohesive leadership team in determining the strategic and tactical direction of the BSM organization. Adaptability, the ability to work closely with others, and an open mind are essential attributes of the management team members.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees performing software engineering and technical activities
  • Ensures execution of software teams providing oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes that align with the program and contract goals and objectives.
  • Develops and executes to integrated project budgets and schedules while maintaining EVM discipline
  • Managing multiple inter-related software projects
  • Prioritizing requirements and needs from multiple customers
  • Working with other engineering disciplines to produce a high-quality product
  • Executes within large-scale agile environment for software development
  • Develops and executes to staffing plans
  • Reviews team estimates to ensure they cover requirements and review and approve proposals for new contract work
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, and peers.


Security Clearance:
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience leading or managing software engineering activities
  • 5+ years of experience following a software development life cycle (i.e., application development & support)
  • Agile software development knowledge
  • Bachelor of science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering or chemistry or other technical degree

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • DevSecOps experience
  • Experience working on either aircraft training systems or a modeling and simulation project
  • Experience in identifying resource requirements for projects, and managing those resources throughout the project life cycle
  • Experience in real-time, near real-time, or embedded systems
  • Familiarity with simulation standards such as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) and High Level Architecture (HLA)
  • Experience as a CAM (cost account manager) in EVM (earned value management)
  • Experience with mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading teams of junior and peer engineers
  • Experience working with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Any Certifications in (PMP, Six Sigma, Scaled Agile SM/RTE or equivalent)

Typical Education/ Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility

Hybrid/Telecommute:

This Hybrid position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. (St. Louis, MO).
