The Boeing Phantom Works division is seeking an Experienced System Engineer (Level 4) to provide support to the Resilient Space Technologies Group in El Segundo, CA. The Resilient Space Technologies Group is part of Boeing Phantom Works which creates differentiated capabilities and services by relentlessly pursuing innovation in design, thinking and execution. Boeing Phantom Works Space creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The selected Systems Engineer will be responsible for evaluating customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Perform analyses to optimize total system architecture. We are seeking an Engineer with experience in satellites to work in a rapid development environment. This engineer will need experience evaluating customer electromagnetic needs to define and coordinate space system requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures. Perform analyses to optimize total system architecture. Perform analyses for affordability, reliability, maintainability, testability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success The role will lead the payload design, development and production for a small spacecraft.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of a classified space system and will work with a small, agile team to take a subsystem and work with a supplier to integrate design changes based on lessons learned and desired performance.

  • Support analyses for potential space applications and advancements.

  • Take a rapid prototype system into a production program.

  • Apply willingness to stretch beyond their experience base and to take risks to achieve objectives.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics or Engineering.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile team.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working with hardware qualification testing, hardware integration and test.

  • Experience working with suppliers.

  • Current Top Secret/SCI Clearance.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
