Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s Phantom Works division is seeking a Senior Mass Properties Engineer at the Berkeley, MO site leading the digital transformation of mass properties tools, methods, and database development while taking on a key advanced design mass properties leadership role on a critical Phantom Works fixed wing advanced design activity. Position Responsibilities Develop the vision, strategy, & implementation plan for new/ enhanced methods, processes and digital engineering tools for mass properties forecasting and reporting across divisions Develop program plans and funding proposals for process, enhanced mass properties database and tool development efforts. Lead design practice and knowledge management activities to streamline and share mass properties Oversee and develop highly complex advanced design weight estimates to support proposals, prototyping, and development, maturation efforts Lead a team of mass properties engineers, overseeing program mass properties control and management, program execution, and customer engagement Lead the estimation, calculation, and measurement/verification of mass, center of gravity, & inertias of components, assemblies and completed vehicles or systems Lead coordination with SME’s across the program to understand weight impacts of design decisions Review and support detail and installation drawing release processes Perform mass properties program planning including schedule, budget, workscope planning & tasks for the program mass properties team Lead the development and presentation of weight status or technical data to design teams, program leadership, and DoD customers Coach and mentors’ others Serves as business unit subject matter expert
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience) Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship 12+ years’ experience of Mass Properties 8+ years’ experience with three-dimensional parametric modeling using NX/Teamcenter or CATIA/ENOVIA methods and tools
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience) Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.). Investigation type and last investigation date must be visible on resume. Aerospace knowledge of fixed wing military aircraft in key disciplines (Airframe, Avionics, Propulsion, Subsystems, etc.) Mass Properties team or engineering leadership and project planning experience Experience with mass properties reporting in alignment with SAWE Recommended Practice 7 & 8 or MIL-STD-1374 mass properties weight control standards Experience with part actual weight measurement, aircraft weight and balance, inertia measurement, fuel calibration testing, etc. Experience using a mass properties database to track weight, center of gravity, & inertia Experience across lifecycle phases (conceptual design through actual weights in flight test & production) Experience with advanced weight estimation methods development Experience with Finite Element Modeling tools such as PATRAN & Hyperworks Familiarity with airworthiness & certification Excel and VBA scripts/macro development Strong written and verbal communication skills
Typical Education/Experience Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Relocation This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.
