Phantom Works is seeking an Advanced Design Associate Mass Properties Engineer at the Berkeley, MO site to support growing Fixed Wing proprietary activities.   The individual selected for this role will play a key element in shaping the future for Boeing and our DoD Customers while conducting mass properties advanced design weight estimation, weight tracking, analysis, and supporting key design trades to mature an air vehicle concept while expanding Phantom Work’s digital acceleration in mass properties.

Position Responsibilities

  • Support development of preliminary weight estimates for advanced air vehicle design proposals, prototyping efforts, trade studies, etc.

  • Interface with a variety of engineering disciplines across the program to perform weight impact analysis to influence and document design decisions

  • Support data analysis and mass properties database updates across program IPTs and supplier mass properties data

  • Participate in maintaining weight, balance and mass properties accounting systems

  • Review and support detail and installation drawing release processes

  • Estimate, calculate, and measure/verify mass, center of gravity, & inertias of components, assemblies and completed vehicles or systems

  • Participate in developing and implementing new processes and tools

  • Works under general direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Mass Properties experience

  • 2+ years of experience with 3D modeling software and product data management tools such as Unigraphics (NX), CATIA, and Teamcenter

  • Aerospace knowledge of fixed wing military aircraft in key disciplines (Airframe, Avionics, Propulsion, Subsystems, etc.)

  • Excel and VBA scripts/macro development

  • Experience with part actual weight measurement, aircraft weight and balance, inertia measurement, fuel calibration testing, etc.

  • Experience using a mass properties database to track weight, center of gravity, & inertia

  • Experience across lifecycle phases (conceptual design through actual weights in flight test & production)

  • Experience with Finite Element Modeling tools such as PATRAN & Hyperworks

Typical Education/Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
