Boeing St. Louis Autonomous Systems has an immediate need for an Experienced Landing Gear Systems Engineer, in Berkeley, MO, for exciting and challenging work. The successful candidate will lead the development, qualification & certification of the landing gear system for the MQ-25 air vehicle (https://www.boeing.com/defense/mq25/). The MQ-25 is an unmanned aircraft system designed for the U.S. Navy mission, it will provide the needed robust refueling capability, thereby extending the combat range of deployed Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Boeing EA-18G Growler, and Lockheed Martin F-35C fighters.

The selected candidate will lead supplier coordination efforts for the landing gear and brake control systems. Candidate will interpret and develop design requirements based on technical data, select components, modify existing designs and integrate system elements to satisfy customer and operational requirements.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Directs the development of landing gear, brake control and arresting hook systems for defense aircraft.
  • Responsible for establishing performance requirements and architecture for these systems.
  • Coordinates with key system suppliers to ensure performance to quality, cost & schedule.
  • Ensures compliance to air vehicle requirements and airworthiness of components and systems.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Serves as technical consultant for disposition, corrective actions and coordination with cross-functional groups to identify/implement solutions and drive strategic improvements relative to production processes.
  • Coaches and mentors others. Works under consultative direction.

This position has a hybrid work schedule (3 days on site, 2 days virtual)

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Aeronautical/Aerospace/Astronautical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10 years of experience working as an engineer on aircraft landing gear subsystems definition, installation design, and analysis
  • 10 years of experience maintaining and overhauling landing gear
  • 5 years of experience with landing gear supplier engagement and coordination

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with the following tools: Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD tools
  • Experience with Model Based Engineering tools such as 3DX or CATIA
  • The candidate should have experience using product data management tools. Teamcenter experience preferred.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
