Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking Mechanical/Hydraulic Systems Engineers with current standing as Designated Engineering Representatives (DER) in the discipline of Systems and Equipment Engineering – Electrical and/or AEH (Chart C2) to join our team in Everett, Washington.

The selected individuals will work within Airplane Systems engineering teams and interface with design engineering teams and other Boeing organizations supporting development of mechanical and hydraulic systems, including hydraulics, steering, landing gear actuation, and braking systems, and associated components for commercial aircraft systems design. Airplane Systems work spans the full range of the aircraft lifecycle: initial concept studies, development, certifications, and continuous improvement in production, and ongoing support for the duration of their service life. Positions available include work at the systems level as well as across a range of components, including: hydraulic motor pumps, various sensors and electronic control systems, motors, actuators, motor-operated valves, and other equipment used in hydraulic, landing gear, braking, and steering systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Finding compliance with the appropriate airworthiness regulations.
  • Preparing data showing compliance with airworthiness regulations.
  • Engineering data could include component level documents such as qualification test procedure (QTP), test article and test setup conformity, and qualification test report (QTR).
  • Engineering data could also include system level documentation such as certification plan, functional hazard assessment (FHA), and system safety assessment (SSA).
  • Participate in and oversee design assurance processes such as ARP4754 to ensure compliance.
  • Provide technical quality review of the development of system requirements and definition of system architecture, and the resulting designs.
  • Support the development of hardware and software designs and associated interface specification to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Review analysis of system performance through modeling and simulation to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Support and provide oversight of development, verification, validation, and certification of designs through both laboratory and airplane testing.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 9 or more years of experience in an engineering discipline.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Current standing as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) in the discipline of Systems and Equipment Engineering – Electrical and/or AEH (Chart C2) Mechanical/hydraulic systems experience.
  • Experience working on hydraulic components such as pumps, actuators, valves or reservoirs.
  • Requirements development, validation and verification.
  • Development assurance and system safety assessment experience per ARP4754.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering fundamentals and judgment.
  • Works under minimal direction.

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
