The Boeing Phantom Works division is seeking a Mid-Level Systems Engineer (Level 3) to provide support to the Resilient Space Technologies Group in El Segundo, CA.. The Resilient Space Technologies Group is part of Boeing Phantom Works which creates differentiated capabilities and services by relentlessly pursuing innovation in design, thinking and execution. Boeing Phantom Works Space creates the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space.  Phantom Works focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The selected T&C Systems Engineer will be responsible for evaluating customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Perform analyses to optimize total T&C architecture. We are seeking an Engineer with experience in satellites to work in a rapid development environment. . Perform analyses for affordability, reliability, maintainability, testability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. The role will work under general supervision.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist in development of a rapid prototype space payload.

  • Work with multiple teams to ensure interfaces and protocols will operate properly with the vehicle.   

  • Lead systems engineering TT&C tasks from SRR through delivery of a prototype space payload.

  • Support design reviews, provide content and present information to customers as necessary.

  • Generate test procedures and documentation for assembly, integration and test activities.

  • Apply willingness to stretch beyond their experience base and to take risks to achieve objectives.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics or Engineering.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile team.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Top Secret/SCI (Sensitive Compartmented Information).

  • 1+ years of experience in Telemetry and Command formats and timing requirements for satellite communication or space systems.

  • Experience in Telemetry and Command and/or Radio Frequency testing.

  • Experience with automated test scripts/scripting languages.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
