The Boeing Phantom Works Space Advanced Missions is seeking a Lab Manager for a Software Development Lab to support our innovative space technology development programs from initial concept to flight demonstrations in El Segundo, CA or Seal Beach, CA. This opportunity is for an engineer to be the lab manager for our VENUS Lab and proprietary Systems Integration Laboratories. These labs support or Vision capabilities for supporting multiple satellite missions performing rendezvous and proximity operations.  The VENUS lab gives us world class capabilities in flying closed loop mission simulations in a variety of simulated space environments. The Lab Manager will have responsibility for all hardware, software, and test equipment in the lab including the investigation and integration of new technologies to enhance the lab capabilities.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all operational and safety procedures for the laboratory usage
  • Responsible for integration of all hardware and software in the laboratories
  • Responsible for maintenance and certification of all hardware in the laboratories
  • Responsible for all technology planning for enhancement of laboratory capabilities
  • Responsible for maintenance and development of simulation environments used in the laboratories

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Work Authorization:

This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 5+ years of experience developing or testing real time integrated avionics hardware/software systems for spacecraft, high performance aircraft or other similar platforms
  • 5+ years of experience in Simulation and/or System Integration Lab environments

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Proficient with VXWorks
  • 10+ years of systems/software integration lab management
  • 10+ years of experience with integrating real time systems
  • 10+ years of experience with testing of real time systems
  • Experience with space/satellite systems
  • Experience integrating and testing optical sensor systems
  • Experience administering Windows and Linux computer systems
  • Proficient in C/C++ programming
  • Proficient with Python programming

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+7 years' related work experience, 11 years' related work experience, etc.).
