The Southern California Global Design Center Boeing Global Services (BGS) Freighter Conversions Team is seeking a Structural Analysis Engineer to make an immediate impact on a key program experiencing rapid growth.  Our products are used by airlines around the world to rapidly transport cargo such as fresh food, humanitarian supplies, and e-commerce. We connect the world and improve people’s lives by enabling access to critical goods. 

The selected candidate will be based in sunny Long Beach, California and will collaborate with a global team to convert existing passenger aircraft into state-of-the-art freighters and to deliver innovative solutions to complex technical problems. In this position they will be able to combine the deep expertise and resources of the entire Boeing enterprise with the flexibility and fast pace of a post-production modification program to continuously raise the bar for technical excellence and product quality.

Some travel may be required to support our customers or to participate in learning experiences to enhance your career.

The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite in Long Beach, CA.

This position is a hybrid position that allows weekly optional (1-2 days) of telecommuting

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop, integrate, and document structural requirements to establish system designs.
  • Use 3-D Computer Aided Design tools (CATIA V5) and 2D drawings to understand product configuration and extract data in support of structural analysis.
  • Guide product design and verify structural integrity by using and developing analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools.
  • Develop analytical processes/tools to improve team effectiveness, quality and efficiency.
  • Work with customers and regulatory agencies to define certification processes that will ensure requirements are met.
  • Support in-service products by leading investigations into failures and analyzing improvements.
  • Evaluate existing repairs and modifications on incoming airplanes for compatibility with the BCF modification package.
  • Support modification of each airplane by evaluating and resolving complex deviations.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Intermediate knowledge of aircraft structure, materials strengths and properties, design criteria, loading conditions, and methods of analysis.
  • Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, computer science, mathematics.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Experience using excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with leaders and colleagues in an engineering environment.
  • Experience developing or altering “as-delivered” aircraft, Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) modifications, and/or Structural Repairs.
  • Experience with FAA certification requirements (14 CFR Part 25).
  • Experience with metallic airplanes, such as 737, 767 and their derivatives.
  • Experience with freighter airplanes and/or freighter conversions.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Boeing Commercial Airplanes drawings, processes, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous personal learning and development.
  • A track record of discovering new opportunities and solutions for problems by looking beyond current practices and using innovative thinking.
  • A history of leading and upholding a culture of proactive safety, first-time quality, and continuous improvement.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Typical Education/ Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
