Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) is looking for Associate Materials Engineer based out of Everett, Washington to support interiors material development, interiors fabrication support, and supply chain support. Engineers selected for this role will support the growing interiors team with material development/testing/qualification, Supply Chain stability, and directly support production at the Washington Interiors Responsibility Center (IRC) Fabrication Business Unit.


This position in BR&T primarily supports Boeing Commercial Airplanes statement of work. Areas of material development/focus include (but not limited to): Composites, Adhesives/Potting Compounds, Honeycomb Core, Tapes/Films, Digital Printing, Panel Forming, Fiber Technology, Insulation/Felts, Flammability, Additive Manufacturing, Thermoplastics, and Interiors Part Assembly Processes. Additional responsibilities will include hands-on lab testing, travel to supplier sites, and implementation of best practices/standardization. A successful candidate will demonstrate good communication, problem solving, and project management skills.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support Washington Interiors Responsibility Center Fabrication Business Unit with both Value Creation and Emergent Production Support Projects
  • Support the Interiors Supply Chain with New Material Qualifications, Emergent Material Issues, and Supply Chain Risk Reduction
  • Support Hands-on Lab Testing of New/Existing Material Systems
  • Support up to 10% Domestic Travel (as needed based on projects)
  • Develop and Maintains Strategic Partnerships with Customers, Stakeholders, and Peers
  • Exercises Critical Thinking, Innovative Problem Solving, and Project Management Skills
  • Listen to the Team/Customer Needs and Collaboratively Support them through Seek, Speak, and Listen principles
  • Be on-site as 3 or more days a week to support production and lab testing activities.

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. On-site work will be at a minimum of 3 days per week.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 2+ years experience in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with composites/composites manufacturing, materials and processes engineering, and/or manufacturing research & development
  • Experience interfacing with internal/external customers
  • Experience supporting process improvement and technology implementation
  • Experience with lean management tools
  • Experience with working emergent requests from Operational functions in production and supply chain

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
