BR&T is looking for an Associate Materials and Process Metals Forming Engineer based out of Auburn, Washington.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist with various metal forming related issues to support BCA and Boeing enterprise: problem solving – root cause and corrective action, running design of experiments
  • Assist with application of FEM and simulation to study and analyze critical forming processes to manufacture parts in a digital environment for technology development
  • Support proposal of fine grain materials to improve pullout and welding and joining process
  • Support future natural laminar flow development studies using either conventional or improved technologies
  • Assist with Production Support and Development Programs in superplastic forming of metals
  • Support Thick Plate Forming for various programs
  • Assists with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of Boeing products
  • Drafts engineering specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
  • Assists in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Assists with development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Performs routine tests and audits to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Conducts routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes
  • Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 2+ years of experience in aerospace materials and structures used on commercial and/or military aircraft
  • 1+ years of experience with material processing for metals (e.g., welding, heat treat, cold spray)
  • 1+ years of experience supporting metal product manufacturing including heat treat, forming, machining, and surface enhancement

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials and Science Engineering - Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with Finite Element Modeling (FEM) of various metal forming processes
  • Experience with Formability and formability testing of various metal products, forming limit diagram
  • Experience with major aircraft materials, mechanical behavior and testing of metals
  • Experience with manufacturing principles and processes of major aircraft metal wrought products including sheet, casting, extrusion, forging, rolling and tube drawing
  • Experience with metal forming and manufacturing processes of sheet, plate and extrusion products – bending, stretch forming, press forming, roll forming, spin forming at ambient temperature, and elevated temperature forming including superplastic forming (SPF), hot forming, press forming, etc. and also welding technology for both aluminum and titanium
  • Experience with tube and duct forming – bending, forming, swaging etc.
  • Experience with high strain-rate deformation processes – high energy hydroforming (HEHF), electromagnetic forming (EMF), etc

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
