The Additive Electronics Technology (AET) team in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Communications Design and Analysis Engineer who will support numerous development programs.

The AET organization is nationally recognized as a leader in field of flexible hybrid electronics (FHE) and is responsible for developing new innovative technology products. We develop new communications and sensing technology and systems for both military and commercial applications, as well as factory and field support operations. We have a need for a Senior Communications Design and Analysis Engineer who will bring their knowledge, skills and abilities to the team.

This is a senior level engineering position, requiring advanced level knowledge and skills in state of the art 5G device implementation for development kits, network framing, slicing, and synchronization.  In addition to 5G communication applications, the team seeks an engineer to implement Internet of Things (IoT) technologies across the GHz frequency spectrum. Specifically, targeted technical skills include: 5G firmware experience, experience programming software defined radios, networking experience, IoT device and application hardware experience. Applicants will develop products from initial conception through hardware prototyping, supply chain integration, and test for multiple Boeing applications. New hires will work with additive materials processing, advanced manufacturing, to develop, test, and potentially pilot new devices.

The position requires working independently and collaboratively in a fast paced research and development environment, as well as providing technical expertise and support to exiting full scale development and production programs.  Successful candidates for this position will need hands on experience using a variety of computer aided design tools and laboratory test equipment.

Position responsibilities:

  • Develops and validates requirements for various complex communication, sensor, and other electromagnetic systems and components

  • Develops and validates electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures

  • Develops architectures to integrate complex systems and components into higher level systems and platforms

  • Performs complicated trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements

  • Defines and conducts critical tests of various kinds to validate performance of designs to requirements

  • Supports project management by providing coordinating development of work statement, budget, schedule and other required inputs and conducting appropriate reviews

  • Generates major sections of proposals to support development of new business

  • Works under minimal direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 2+ years of coursework and/or work experience in Internet of Things (IoT) and/or 5G Implementation

  • Experience in 5G network coding, practices, and operations

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • PhD experience in RF and microwave electronics, antennas, wireless communications, IoT engineering, 5G applications

  • Experience in 5G chip programming and implementation

  • Experience in printed circuit board design/layout, fabrication, test, and validation

  • Experience on Research and Development projects

  • Experience in sensor design, operation, and application interfaces

  • Experience in IoT implementation using RF & Optical Electronics for Communications and Sensing

  • Experience in the development and use of additive manufacturing processes for electronics

  • Develops architectures to integrate components into higher level systems and platforms

  • Extensive, specialized knowledge of special communication design criteria and processes to include system analysis (e.g. link budgets analysis) and end-to-end evaluation via data collection, analysis, and optimization.

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
