The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch division is seeking an Associate Wire Harness Mechanical Design & Installation Engineer (Level 2) to provide support to multiple commercial and proprietary programs for the Wire Harness Engineering Group.  The Wire Harness Engineering Group is part of Boeing Space and Launch, In-Space Vehicles organization, which manages the company's major commercial and government satellite and ground programs for communications, national defense and other missions.

This position will develop, document, and maintain wire harness detail designs to establish the mechanical design, manufacture, and installation of wire harness products and components.  This position coordinates with other engineering groups to establish the product's systems and mechanical requirements, guide product design and verifies systems functional integrity by using analytical methods, such as schematic validation tools and processes, hand calculations, design reviews and other analysis tools (CEEDS, CAWS, Mentor Capital, CREO, etc.) throughout the product life-cycle.  The position will be part of a small team of wire harness engineers to provide support, mentorship, and help define priorities.  This position is located in El Segundo, CA.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains cable/wire harness detail and assembly designs.

  • Develops and maintains electrical product detail, assembly and installation designs (e.g., equipment racks, power panels, cable routing and geometry, antennas).

  • Supports assembly, integration, and test activities for wire harness products. 

  • Provides engineering design disposition on discrepancies (e.g., rejection tags, production action requests, shop revision requests).

  • Documents processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities.

  • Participates in technical review of supplier capabilities to facilitate source selection.

  • Works under general direction.

  • Work shift may vary according to program needs and life cycle phase.

This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A U.S. Top Secret clearance is required post start.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or related technical field; four (4) or more years of directly related work experience is acceptable in lieu of a degree.

  • One (1) to three (3) or more years of experience with wire harness, electrical and/or mechanical design.

  • Experience reading and understanding engineering drawings and schematics.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering  is preferred.

  • Ability to interpret wire harness requirements and then create, draw, release schematics and wire list data packages.

  • One (1) to three (3) or more years experience routing wire harness in a CAD 3D model, preferably CREO, read and interpret wire harness schematics.

  • Experience working with manufacturing methods, fabrication or assembly processes.

  • Ability to create, draw, release detailed wire harness assembly and installation drawings.

  • Hands on experience with wire harness manufacture and installation for space applications.  Satellite experience preferred.

Typical Education and Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
