The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical System Design Engineer (level 5) to join a Vehicle Management System (VMS) team located in St. Louis, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

Boeing-St. Louis is seeking a highly motivated engineer to support the design, development, integration, and certification of the next-generation Vehicle Management System (VMS) for TACAIR Programs. The selected candidate will work on an exciting proprietary program that is growing rapidly. You will have the opportunity to be involved from the beginning of the design cycle and personally contribute to the development of a next-generation platform in the form of state of the art VMS development, performance testing, analysis and simulations. In addition, there will be visibility across the Boeing enterprise into modern VMS development methods.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversees technical support efforts of the VMS Integrated Product Team (IPT), which includes hardware, requirements, software, and labs teams.

  • Oversees VMS hardware and software development processes.

  • Oversees efforts to ensure that the VMS architecture, hardware, and software meet requirements.

  • Oversees coordination of VMS design, architecture, and logical interfaces with other IPTs.

  • Oversees coordination of integrated test plans

  • Oversees coordination the overall VMS certification process with other IPTs and certification authorities.

  • Provide oversight of critical suppliers development, test, and integration activities

  • Conducts program independent review and reports to program leadership

  • Develops architectures to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platform.

  • Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component, interconnects and system performance and to optimize design around established requirements.

  • Researches specific technology advances for potential application to company business needs.

  • Providing mentoring and development guidance to early and mid-career engineers

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Export Control:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Bachelors, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • Experience with board level circuit design

  • Knowledge of industry standards for backplane and interface protocols

  • Experience with technical requirements development

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Knowledge of typical Vehicle Management Systems architecture and hardware configurations

  • Ability to understand and implement a team vision for hardware

  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal oversight

  • Experience with mentoring and developing early career engineers

  • Active U.S. Security Clearance

Typical Education: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
