The Phantom Works Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) architecture development effort on one of multiple proprietary programs.   On these programs, Systems Engineering is being executed utilizing model-based methods so the candidate must have both an understanding of MBSE tools and processes and a background in Systems Engineering.  The Senior MBSE Architect will tailor the MBSE approach to the program, lead the cross-functional program team in developing the System Architecture in Cameo, plan and coordinate model-based design reviews, and guide and integrate the System Architecture with other tools in the Digital Ecosystem.  They will coordinate with internal stakeholders, external customers, and suppliers to integrate models, ensure the MBSE approach is understood, and verify adherence to modeling standards.  Additionally, the candidate will guide requirements development, interface management, trade studies, verification and test planning, in coordination with the lead System Engineer and System Engineering team, as applicable.  The ability to work in a collaborative team environment on-site and across engineering disciplines will be imperative to this role.  The selected individual will work in a fast paced, innovative environment where excellent technical, organizational, leadership, written and verbal communications skills are essential. This position is located in St. Louis MO.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead program wide cross-functional teams in developing the System Architecture to meet program commitments, including leadership of model-based design reviews
  • Influence strategic direction and leverage Systems Engineering and MBSE experience to implement, maintain and refine the MBSE approach shape the digital engineering environment and meet customer objectives  
  • Lead and shape Systems Engineering efforts using model-based methods including development of key artifacts such as requirements decomposition, system architecture; specifications, systems engineering and program plans, interfaces, risk assessment and mitigation, validation and verification planning, overall integration and test.
  • Advocate for program and division needs in collaborative MBSE workshops with and across divisions with a focus on establishing a common MBSE approach
  • Mentor and advise less experienced MBSE Architects in SysML and Systems Engineering
  • Guide cross program/domain integration of the System Architectures into the Digital Engineering Ecosystem to establish digital models as an integral part of the technical baseline.
  • Lead interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to plan, design, develop and verify complex systems solutions
  • Establish, maintain, and demonstrate traceability between the requirements, analysis, and design being developed in the Digital Systems Models within the DE Ecosystem.
  • Lead Internal Research and Development efforts to expand the MBSE capability within Phantom Works
  • Identify and manage program technical metrics using model based approaches
  • Shape and lead MBSE proposal efforts across the organization
  • Serve as a Technical Lead Engineer, guiding the efforts of less experienced MBSE Architects

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 7+ years of systems engineering experience involving system architecture development, including system requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, integrated design, analysis, and verification.

  • 3+ years’ experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, such as CAMEO or similar Systems Modeling Language (SysML)-compatible tool for systems architecture and model development.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience):

  • Breadth of experience across technical domains and life cycle phases

  • Experience with Mission System and Weapon Systems architectures

  • Experience with Weapons Open Systems Architecture (WOSA), Open Mission Systems (OMS), and/or Universal Command and Control Interface (UCI)

  • Experience leading cross-IPT architecture development

  • Experience leading multi-discipline program milestone design reviews

  • Experience developing cross-program MBSE approaches

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
