The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Structures Capability is seeking a high-performing Mechanical & Structural Engineering (MSE) Manager (Level K) to join the St. Louis Design Center in Berkeley, MO on 1st shift.  The St. Louis Design Center is a highly skilled, flexible workforce that provides affordable, “Best of Boeing” design solutions and MSE processes, tools and training for the advancement of the Boeing Enterprise.

 

The selected candidate will lead a high performing team of mechanical/structural engineers and technologists assigned to support a diverse group of programs and initiatives throughout The Boeing Company.  Primary responsibilities include: employee development, building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, executing existing work scope, acquiring new work scope to maintain a robust design center portfolio, defining and executing a staffing strategy, successfully meeting commitments, and driving quality, efficiency and affordability into the design center operating rhythm.

 

This position requires extensive coordination and interaction with Enterprise wide Boeing employees and leadership, external engineering service providers and cross-functional organizations. Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the performance management and evaluation of direct reports including 1:1 coaching, employee development and ensuring technical proficiency.

  • Leverages diversity and inclusion to drive greater innovation and stronger technical solutions.

  • Partners with local and Enterprise-wide design center leaders to develop skilled resources (e.g. Full Size Determinant Assembly, Common Non-Recurring Product Development, Start Right) available for program start-up and Structures best practices.

  • Manages Structural Design and Analysis support of programs through loan labor or full ownership of work statement, including all interfaces on behalf of programs.

  • Responsible for meeting first time quality and communicating progress to plan utilizing program preferred metrics or mutually agreeable forms of communication.

  • Responsible for acquiring and deploying staff for identified needs or reductions.

  • Manages intra-Design Center work assignments, including coordination with other BDS Design Centers and international partners (e.g. Boeing India), for appropriate skills.

  • Identify, lead and/or support initiatives to improve the Structures capability, including design center utilization and effectiveness.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • 5+ years of experience in the field of engineering.

  • 3+ years of experience coaching, mentoring and leading mechanical and/or structures engineers in a management or technical lead engineer capacity.

  • Ability to travel 10% of time.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.

  • Experience using Boeing Non-Recurring Product Development (NRPD) or equivalent Boeing Development Processes.

  • Experience utilizing Full Size Determinant Assembly.

  • Experience utilizing Structures Start Right Methodology.

  • Experience leading Boeing Commercial Air Vehicle Structural Design or Analysis tasks.

  • Experience leading Boeing Defense Air Vehicle Structural Design or Analysis tasks.
