The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Extreme Environments Structures Team is seeking an Associate Structural Analysis Engineer (Loads & Dynamics) (Level 2) in Huntington Beach, CA. 

In this role, you will join a team that conducts research projects to lower cost, reduce size/weight/power, and increase performance by incorporating advanced structural architectures and design concepts into load bearing structure, especially structures that experience extreme environment loading or flexible deformation. We work across the complete product lifecycle of space launch vehicles, under sea vehicles, military & commercial aircraft, and advanced vehicle prototypes.  We also provide critical expertise and advance the state of the art in methods and tools for structural dynamics, loads, aeroelasticity, vibration, and multidisciplinary optimization to programs across Boeing. 

The successful candidate will perform structural dynamic analysis and test under the mentorship of experienced engineers, with the opportunity to work with university, government, and international partners in identifying, developing, and transitioning game changing technologies to Boeing products.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic structural analysis using well defined analysis tools to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance

  • Performs modeling, analysis, and simulation for loads and dynamics, aeroelasticity, structural dynamics, and vibroacoustics

  • Coordinates with representatives from other disciplines, such as, design, strength, mass properties, aerodynamics, controls, manufacturing, and test

  • Ability to write persuasive and effective research proposals

  • Supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications

  • Defines and documents certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied

  • Supports in-service products by investigating failures and analyzing improvements

  • Works under general supervision

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. 

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master, or doctorate degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry

  • Experience with structural dynamics analysis and testing

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience utilizing FEM software (e.g. ABAQUS, PATRAN/NASTRAN)

  • Experience or training with computer programming languages (e.g.  Matlab, FORTRAN, and/or Python)

  • Experience with structural optimization and modal testing

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with leaders and colleagues in an engineering

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
