Interiors Responsibility Center Engineering is seeking an experienced Liaison Engineer (Product Review Engineer) to join our team located in Ladson, South Carolina (Bldg. 88-50). We are looking for a proactive individual who can make quick engineering decisions; go beyond their desks and into the factory for hands-on engineering. This position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, partnering closely with production personnel. The role involves working collaboratively with the Interiors production system to create comprehensive repairs and perform emergent issue resolution. On-site support is required (limited virtual work) in addition to rotating weekend factory support. Future off-shift hours may be required and schedule flexibility is a must. This is a support function role and, as such, requires a helpful approach and a willingness to team cross-functionally for continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Applies knowledge of Boeing design principles to assess and resolve product/process issues through the product lifecycle.
  • Analyzes, conducts root cause analysis, and develops dispositions for design non-conformances.
  • Applies engineering principles to research technical, operational, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by customer and designs interim and final engineering solutions.
  • Identifies documents, analyzes reported problems, and communicates deviations that could impact design intent and safety; recommends and manages resolution.
  • Develops and implements product/process improvements.
  • Supports Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and participates in design reviews.
  • Represents the engineering community in the build through post-production environment.
  • Ensures supplier and build partner compliance with Boeing standards.
  • Develops customer correspondence for continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Participates in on-site disabled product repair teams and accident investigation or support teams.
  • Analyzes damage repair or structural modification to determine appropriate jacking and shoring, prevent collateral damage and assure a safe work environment.
  • Designs interim structural repairs and conducts static strength analysis.
  • Develops non-destructive test procedures, tools, and standards.
  • Conducts simple static strength analysis.
  • Use Boeing Problem Solving Model (BPSM) and other techniques to address and document root causes and solutions to recurring production issues.
  • Advocate for implementing the One Boeing Production System (BPS) initiative.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelors of Science degree (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 3 or more years of experience in an engineering discipline.
  • 3 or more years of experience working in a cross-functional environment and/or business unit teams.
  • Must be willing to work variable shifts, as the candidate may be assigned a rotation to cover first, second, or third shift.
  • Must be willing to work weekends or daily overtime and holidays as required to support production.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in: Mechanical, Aerospace / Aeronautical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or Material Science Engineering.
  • Current or Prior Material Review Board (MRB) Certification or similar Liaison Engineering experience.
  • Aerospace Interiors experience involving fabrication, manufacturing, and/or additive manufacturing.
  • Experience navigating and interpreting engineering models and requirements using CATIA and ENOVIA computing systems.
  • Production engineering experience.
  • Relevant technological knowledge.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead, and work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent cross-functional teaming, collaborative problem solving, building lasting relationships & proficiency in written and verbal communication.

Typical Education/Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Ph.D., Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
