Boeing is looking for a Mid-Level Configuration Design / MDAO Engineer based out of Hazelwood, Missouri, to join the Advanced System Analysis, Design, & Optimization (ASADO) team under Flight & Vehicle Technology.

The focus of this role is on the development of Multidisciplinary Design, Analysis, and Optimization (MDAO) models, tools, and processes for a diverse set of air vehicles and systems across the Boeing Enterprise (e.g. tactical aircraft, transport aircraft, UAVs, rotorcraft, hybrid-electric vehicles, missiles).  In addition, the position will also support conceptual / preliminary design studies with the models and capabilities developed.  This is an excellent opportunity to utilize one's creative abilities to develop innovative engineering processes and tools in a Model-Based Engineering (MBE) environment that is applicable to the design of multiple platforms across Boeing.

The successful candidate should possess the skills to work independently as well as in a team environment.  This position will require excellent communication skills and the technical knowledge to be able to provide oversight and direction to early-career engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop MDAO models for a diverse set of vehicle platforms, which includes architecting the model, writing scripts to link analysis codes together, and incorporating higher-fidelity analysis

  • Run trade studies, design space explorations, and vehicle optimization studies

  • Integrate MDAO models with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Participate in the development of MDAO technology roadmaps

  • Lead projects within the MDAO Internal Application Development (IAD ) portfolio

  • Provide MDAO support for CRAD proposals

  • Train and mentor others on the MDAO process and best practices

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location option.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 3+ years of experience developing MDAO models and wrapping analysis codes for design space exploration and optimization

  • Experience performing trade studies and vehicle design optimization

  • Experience in Python and Matlab programming languages

  • Experience developing complex software programs for engineering use

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret clearance

  • Experience in fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, or weapons programs

  • Experience with surrogate modeling

  • Experience with optimization algorithms

  • Experience developing parametric geometry

  • Experience with Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) and Design Under Uncertainty (DUU)

  • Experience in computer programming languages (e.g. Java, C, C++, FORTRAN)

  • Experience with higher-order analysis (e.g. CFD, FEA)

  • Experience performing aerodynamic, aircraft performance, and/or stability and control (S&C) analysis

  • Experience with CATIA and/or NX CAD software

  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills

  • Works well both independently and in a team environment

Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
