The Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical systems (LEOS) organization is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer (Electro-Optical) to join their team in Albuquerque, NM. 

Boeing’s Laser & Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) team harnesses more than 40 years of innovation and expertise to deliver cutting-edge, warfighter-tested high energy laser defense with precision and affordability. 

Designed for both stand-alone use and mobile configuration, Boeing’s Directed Energy solutions provide scalable and efficient air defense against lower-tier threats in any environment.

The LEOS systems engineering team develops high performance directed energy and electro-optical systems using state of the art image processing and tracking systems. The ideal engineer will have a background in optical system development, analysis, modeling and simulation. Tasks would include modeling and simulation of sensors, optics, and system radiometry using MATLAB. Performance analysis of signal processing algorithms used for acquisition, tracking and pointing.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and fielding of simulations used to develop, analyze, integrate and test high performance directed energy and electro-optical systems. 

  • Work in small Agile teams composed of diverse engineering skills and will be expected to use their talents to tackle complex problems on a variety of programs. 

  • Developing technical products, plans, documentation, and briefings in support of program requirements.

  • Contribute to efforts for Digital Engineering Transformation.

This position allows telecommuting. (Hybrid) The selected candidate may be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Albuquerque, NM)

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  A U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • 5+ years of developing models and simulations in MATLAB

  • 3+ years background in optical systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 2+ years’ experience with MBSE tools and methods (e.g. SysML)

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
