The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch division is seeking an innovative, self-reliant and highly motivated First Line Manager (Level K) to lead and support the Structural Analysis Engineering function for the Satellite System's programs located in EL Segundo, CA.

The Structural Analysis Engineering Manager will lead a high-performing team of employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Mechanical & Structural Engineering in support of satellite system’s hardware. The ideal candidate will lead and inspire teams to increase engineering performance including first-time quality, on-time engineering, affordability and risk/opportunity management in addition to serving as a change-agent and a champion for the organization and its success. This position will be is immersed in both non-recurring and recurring engineering development work on existing and future space hardware.

This is not a union represented position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execution of the engineering statement of work on current and future Satellite System’s contracts in the area of structural analysis with a focus on first-time quality, on-time engineering, cost and schedule.

  • Inspire and champion creativity, innovation, affordability and organization initiatives.

  • Provide direct management and technical oversight of engineering, technical approaches and processes.

  • Manage all staffing needs, determine critical skills, forecasts, obtains and manage personnel, facilities, services, equipment and tools to meet project and organizational needs.

  • Champion employee recognition, increase employee satisfaction and ensure workplace safety.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and partners (program managers, IPTs, customers, etc.)

  • Convey organizational messages, business vision, and strategies to employees.

  • Proactively communicate with leadership, peers, team and customers.

  • Coach, counsel, mentor, actively listen to employees concerns/suggestions and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance performance of employees.

  • Develop and executes integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives.

  • Lead team in analysis, test, and certification of space flight hardware designs.

  • Lead team that will perform structural analysis using well defined analysis tools (NASTRAN, PATRAN, CREO-Simulate, Common Structures Workstation and in-house tools) to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance.

  • Lead team to guide product design and verify structural integrity by defining requirements for development of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance of the products.

  • Ensure team reviews and approves certification results and develops test plans and configurations, supports test execution, and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.

  • Support supplier hardware development, production and test activities, to ensure hardware that integrates with designs and meets overall system/vehicle requirements.

  • Manage current and future staffing needs including critical skills, forecasts, facilities, services, equipment and tools required to meet project and organizational needs.

  • Emphasize/mange first-time quality, on-time engineering, affordability, innovation and risk/opportunity management.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance Post Start is required. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry from an ABET accredited program.

  • Experience working with hardware development programs.

  • Experience using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other stress analysis tools such as Finite Element Model Analysis Program (NASTRAN), Abacus, and NASGRO to develop the structural environment, characteristics and performance of the product.

  • 3 years or more of leadership experience in engineering and/or organizational leadership/program management.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Degree in mechanical, civil, aerospace engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  • Experience working with space vehicle hardware.

  • Experience solving complex problems.
