Start your career at Boeing working with BR&T as a Senior Inorganic Finishes Materials Process and Physics Engineer (Chemical/Contamination) based out of Auburn, Washington.

This role will be focused on supporting the development, demonstration and transition of innovative coating technologies. The successful candidate will be energetic; driven; handy in the lab; able to work with no instructions for routine work; and able to work special projects with minimal instruction. This candidate will be recognized as a prime technical contact within BR&T and provide technical solutions to complex light metal finishes problems that require creativity and collaboration with other business units and stakeholders. This teammate will be completing their own work statement while mentoring and managing statement of work for a small sub team of about six employees. This technology leader will represent the organization through long range business planning and technology road-mapping for light metal finishes while often interacting with leadership, other organizations and external contacts.

Materials and Manufacturing Technology is focused on discovering, developing, and transitioning innovative materials and manufacturing technology into Boeing products. Position Responsibilities:

  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Promotes standardization across business activities
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
  • Integrates new technologies as appropriate
  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes
  • Implements corrective and preventive actions
  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements.
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the listed location. On-site work will be at a minimum of 3 days per week.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 9+ years of engineering experience
  • 7+ years of experience in in-organic coating, plating or corrosion  
  • 7+ years of experience working in a factory and or/lab environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with one or many of the following specialties: Aerospace or Automotive Paint Application, Paints & Coatings, Inorganic Chemical Processes, Environmental Health and Safety, Sealants, and/or Analytics
  • Experience performing applications of inorganic finishes, light metal finishing (e.g. anodize, conversion coat), decorative finishes/paints, particularly for commercial or military aircraft
  • Experience with implementing new technology into production systems or onto product
  • Experience with long range business planning and or technology road-mapping
  • Experience with hands-on chemical or materials experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Typical Education/Experience: 
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
