Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for Plasma Spray Skin Repair Mechanic to join our team in Seattle/Renton, WA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Obtain work from the airplane assist, CMES, or other online system, select job based on priority and schedule, print work order (W/O).

  • Review scope of work from W/O based on engineering disposition.

  • Locate damage on aircraft using given water lines, stringers, station and buttock line values.

  • Visually check damage, verify that the damage on aircraft matches that of the work order, as required.

  • Coordinate with production shop lead, supervisor and engineering when assistance is needed from shop for aircraft part removal, as required.

  • Remove surface damage (e.g., scratches, gouges, nicks, dents) using shop aid blocks, hammers, sandpaper, scotchbrite, power tools, as required.

  • Troubleshoot problems and develop plans, tools and shop-aids to complete a given task such as finish irregularities or damage.

  • Perform buffing process on decorative surface of interior/exterior parts, to a satin finish following grain direction, as required.

  • Prepare area for thermal/cold spray process clean surfaces per process documentation.

  • Set-up router and fabricate custom router guide for the purpose of removing scratch from the damaged skin, as required.

  • Coordinate with tool grind when cutters need to be sharpened or when custom cutters need to be fabricated, as required.

  • Clean router cut area by using a small sandblast gun (Grit-blast), as required.

  • Coordinate with transportation to have the equipment transported to work area.

  • Set-up thermal/cold spray machine, locate power supply, water supply and drain, as required.

  • Run test plate as required.

  • Mask off area to be repaired with Mylar tape, as required.

  • Attach pyrometers to skin to monitor temperature during process, as required Repair damage using the thermal spray machine, coordinate monitoring pyrometers with QA during operation and maintain specified heat, as required.

  • Fair-in thermal/cold spray to ensure exact contour and smoothness, use various types of sanding and buffing compounds, as required.

  • Setup buffing wheel and check to see that wheel is on correctly/safely and that proper RPM has been applied, as required.

  • Hand clean part with solvent and brush on alodine to protect part from corosion, as required.

  • Set-up and operate portable anodizing machine to perform touch up work where part removal is not practical, as required.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials, in approved manner per Safety Data sheets (SDS), using protective equipment, as required.

  • Maintain personal certifications, as required. Operate booms, stackers, lifts as required to perform work.

  • Visually inspect the equipment and fall protection before using.

  • Operate Boeing issued vehicles both on and off Boeing property as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite

  • Any experience utilizing and following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications

  • 1+ years of experience do you have using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • High School diploma or GED

Typical Education:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.
