Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Ground Design and Mission Support Group, is seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator to join our team in Herndon, VA.

We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies.  Our ground design and mission team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers.  Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

This position requires the ability to investigate, analyze, and resolve Linux based system problems.  The position will require frequent interaction with customers, subcontractors, and teammates in support of program operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain multi-platform systems hardware, software and components.
  • Develop, design, integrate, and maintain all computer applications.
  • Prepare release planning for software and hardware across the system.
  • Evaluate complex system's production readiness and supportability.
  • Integrate security solutions into information systems.
  • Administer and manage Windows and Linux systems in the operations, engineering, analysis, and test environments.
  • Perform system and user account maintenance.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and optimize system performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operating system conflicts.
  • Analyze, test, and implement security patches and hardening.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Document maintenance actions.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite in Herndon, VA.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5) security clearance, formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (TS/SCI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreement to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.   

This position is contingent upon clearance verification and program and customer concurrence.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in Systems or Network Administration.
  • Experience in Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with defining and integrating computing and storage systems.
  • Willingness to take a polygraph.
  • Willingness to provide rotating on-call support and occasional shift and weekend work.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • A current Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI Poly) or Full Scope Polygraph (FS Poly) (CI/FS Poly).
  • Experience in Windows operating systems.
  • Familiarity with various networks, servers and applications.
  • Familiarity with centralized services to include LDAP, DNS, and back-ups.
  • CompTIA Security+ (Sec+) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certification.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience, 9 years' related work experience, etc.)
