The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Phantom Works organization is seeking individuals for engineering Entry Level to Early Career positions as a Structural Dynamics Analyst in Berkeley, Missouri for their advanced air vehicle proprietary programs. Candidates will support structural dynamics assessments for various production and developmental aircraft and weapons products in Phantom Works and Global Strike and Surveillance. They will be assigned to teams that design, analyze, and test Boeing products to assess the impact of launch, flight and landing environments / maneuvers on vehicle structural response and to predict structural loading and stiffness requirements for all parts and sub-systems. The positions require strong analytic problem-solving skills with familiarity with basic aerodynamics, stability and control, structural dynamics (i.e. vibration, shock, acoustic noise, buffet, and dynamic store release), aero-elastic stability, and finite element modeling. Proficiency is required in one or more higher-level programming languages such as C, Fortran, MATLAB, or similar. The ability to effectively coordinate requirements with internal suppliers and customers is also required.

Position Responsibilities

(Please note this is an entry level position and candidates will be expected to perform some of the following tasks with guidance from experienced engineers as required.)

  • Assist in developing air vehicle dynamic environmental service requirements

  • Develop dynamic vehicle loads & dynamics models

  • Perform flutter, divergence, buffet, and other dynamic analysis to support air vehicle design

  • Collaborate with the Air Frame & Subsystems design and analysis engineers to generate integrated Modelling & Simulation models and Dynamic Analysis Tools & Processes consistent with a Model Based Engineering environment

  • Monitor component and vehicle level vibration, shock, and endurance tests

  • Assist in reviewing Air Frame and subsystems hardware packages for flight worthiness and to ensure the air vehicle meets the dynamic service environment

  • Provide onsite support for hardware vendor qualification tests

  • Participate in wind tunnel, ground and flight test programs, by assisting in the development of test requirements, providing data for pre-test analysis, monitoring testing, assisting in data analysis and documenting results, in order to support design and verification of vehicle and components

  • Provide data to support the definition and documentation of structural design requirements for the service life of the product, to ensure company, customer and regulatory requirements are met

  • Participates in verifying that vehicle design meets requirements, by assisting in the analysis or test

  • Documents results, in order to substantiate structural integrity and show compliance with customer and regulatory requirements

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or Internationally depending on business needs

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience with structural dynamics analysis and testing

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Possess interpersonal communication (written & verbal) skills in a team-oriented environment

  • Ability to interact professionally with customer, supplier, field & production representatives

  • Experience with Model Based Engineering Design/Analysis experience through the use of advanced Modelling & Simulation and Tools & Process development

Typical Education/Experience

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience or a Master's degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
