Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Functional Test Application Engineering (FTAE) Team. Our FTAE team develops and maintains several systems used by both BCA Engineering and Manufacturing, primarily production-critical systems for functional test authoring, management, and delivery. FTAE provides software applications for system functional testing for 737, 747, 747-LCF, 767, 777, and P-8A aircraft production.

Primary functions of FTAE applications:

  • Support factory production testing
  • Provide specialized test authoring tool for creating/editing tests
  • Test management and configuration control
  • Test delivery to manufacturing

Primary systems:

  • Functional Test Information Center (FTIC) in use since 1999 which is an accredited application used for authoring and configuration management of automated and manual System Functional Tests (SFT).
  • Just In Time Test (JITT) in use since 1998 is an application and print server used to retrieve the latest released version of a system functional test.
  • Electronic Just In Time Test (eJITT) in use since 2017 is becoming the new standard as it provides a common system interface for delivery allowing users to retrieve a manual test and perform it on the airplane while also recording the test validation results and buyoffs.
  • The selected team member enjoys working collaboratively with others, has a commitment to customer satisfaction and process improvement, and is successful working in a multi-contract/multi-program environment.  He/she will support and may lead the development of solutions to a wide range of complex problems that require ingenuity and innovation.   He/she should be adaptable to new development environments and eager to work with and learn new technologies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
  • Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system.
  •  Assists with test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Supports software project management and software supplier management functions.
  • Selects, tailors and deploys processes and tools; establishes metrics.
  •  Performs software research and trade studies.
  •  Troubleshoots software issues.
  • Works under general supervision

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering and / or computer science
  • Strong programming skills in C#, Java, Python, C or C++
  • Experience in software development, systems engineering, or integration and test experience with mission systems on tactical platforms
  • Experience with the Linux OS
  • Experience in Development and understanding documented requirements/specifications for designs of software systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of C# (.Net Core 3.x, REST, aspx, asmx, WCF, Razor pages, Jet Engine, XML, JSON, WinForm XAML, WPF)
  • 1+ years of Oracle PL/SQL
  • 1+ years of Website Development
  • 1+ years of SQA \ Testing
  • 1+ years of JavaScript or other scripting language
  • 1+ years of MS SQL Developer
  • Experience in AGILE/DevOps tools and methodologies
  • Experience in Development, documentation and maintenance of architectures, requirements, interfaces and designs for software systems.

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
