The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Level 5) to join the Airpower Teaming System (ATS) program in St. Louis, MO.  The Boeing Airpower Teaming System is a new uncrewed aircraft that will serve as a force multiplier.  It’s designed to work as a smart team with existing military aircraft to complement and extend airborne missions. 

This Senior Software Engineer will lead activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems for the Boeing Airpower Teaming System (ATS). They will lead development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system. They will serve as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.

This position allows some telecommuting (approximately 50% of the time).  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in St. Louis regularly. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.

  • Assist with long-term strategic roadmap.

  • Provide technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities.

  • Lead development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics.

  • Coordinate software interfaces to ensure compatibility with the ATS architecture.

  • Coordinate safety critical and certification requirements (MIL-STD-882, DO-178C, etc) into engineering design and architecture.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active). A final U.S. secret clearance Pre Start is required. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience developing system requirements, verification plans, functional decomposition / allocation, and interfaces.

  • Must be proficient in C++.

  • Must have experience with real-time operating systems.

  • Must have with Open Mission Systems (OMS) architecture.

  • Must have experience in using modern DevSecOps Pipelines.

  • Communication experience, both written and verbal, with a comfort in public speaking and frequent interactions with external customers

  • 5 years minimum experience in avionics or mission systems software through the full engineering lifecycle.

  • 5 years minimum experience of technical and/or project leadership experience.

Desired Qualifications (Preferred Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with unit and regression testing.

  • Experience with avionics software technologies (Link-16, 1553 databus).

  • Experience with safety critical and certification software requirements (e.g. MIL-STD-882, DO-178C)

  • Experience working with suppliers to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements.

  • Experience working with USAF or other DOD customers.

  • Experience with unmanned vehicles.

  • Strong knowledge of data structures, system design and algorithms.

  • Highly motivated self-starter, must work well in a team environment.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Travel: - Position may require infrequent travel, less than 10%.
