Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) and the International Space Station (ISS) are looking for an Experienced Software Quality Engineer (SQE) to join our team of highly-motivated, customer-focused engineers in Huntsville, AL.  We partner with the ISS Software Engineering team to help develop and maintain a culture of first-time quality throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). As a member of this team, you have the autonomy and responsibility to work with programs to help improve the quality of our Boeing developed software products.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Actively participates in program activities, from initial proposal and planning to verification/certification, delivery, acceptance and maintenance.

  • Verifies software lifecycle activities and products comply with approved software processes, plans, and standards

  • Identifies process or product non-compliances;  supports root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions and other defect investigation/prevention activities

  • Teams with Laboratory technicians to manage equipment and drawings used for  software development and maintenance,

  • Acts as an independent set of eyes and ears for Program Managers and the customer, highlighting potential best practices on the team, as well as areas for improvement

  • Supports the identification and analysis of program/project software quality metrics to improve software quality and manage risk

  • Mentors less experienced engineers in Software Quality Engineering best practices and requirements, as required.

  • Represents ISS and Boeing enterprise SQE initiatives/activities/discussions

  • Perform Software Process, equipment, and software safety audits per required schedule.

  • Support and audit milestone reviews, ensuring contractual requirements are met.

  • Support program change and product review boards.

  • Support, witness, and monitor Formal Qualification Reviews.

  • Support software development peer reviews, as well as program-level documentation reviews.

  • Lead in the development and review of software quality documentation updates and implementation.

  • Support Program Software Quality related needs.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. 

The selected candidate will be required to perform some work activities onsite at the NASA Marshal Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL.

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.  

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  (NASA Clearance)

NASA Requirements:

This position is subject to a NASA background and financial review.  The ability to obtain NASA clearance is required. 

This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree

  • 2+ years of experience with the software development lifecycle (including requirements analysis, design, code, integration & test)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with products developed using Agile software development practices

  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Software Engineering Certification

  • Understanding of Boeing Processes and Procedures

  • Motivated, self-starter

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience).

In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:
